About the Fund

At the 2014 AGM a Training Fund was set up funded by an apportionment from the Guild Subscriptions, and has more recently received additional funds from Eastern Branch's fund-raising events. The training fund has historically supported the Young Ringers and funded training courses.

Now named the Recruitment and Training (RandT) Fund, and with the appointment of a RandT Officer at the 2025 AGM, the subcommittee has representation from each branch and strives to achieve the CCCBR Ringing 2030 Agenda.

The Guild has a fund to assist with the costs incurred by training and recruitment initiatives within the Guild area.

What Can Be Funded

Initiatives could include:

  • The recruitment and initial training of new ringers
  • The skill development of existing ringers
  • The training of teachers of ringing
  • The running of courses
  • The provision of training equipment
  • The encouragement of young ringers
  • Other activities and materials directly associated with training
  • Promotion of ringing as a hobby/social activity — fairs, events, posters, promotional materials

Applications for grants from branches, towers, and individuals are all encouraged. Examples include the installation of simulators and dumbells, hire of halls for courses, and under certain circumstances a contribution towards course fees.

Applications from a Guild member whose financial circumstances mean they feel unable to participate in training, from which they and the Guild would benefit, may apply in confidence through the Recruitment and Training Officer.

How Much Can Be Awarded

The Guild will only fund a proportion of the cost of a project — the fund is limited and the benefits need to be spread across the Guild. Local commitment is also required to ensure a project is likely to succeed.

Up to 50% towards capital expenditure or marketing materials
Up to 100% for teacher training

Both are subject to funds available. All necessary permissions for the project must have been obtained (e.g. faculties) before application.

How Decisions Are Made

When making decisions the Guild Committee will have regard to the following criteria:

The grant must offer significant educational benefit and good value for money.
Funding is intended to make a difference — ensuring training that otherwise might not happen can go ahead, or enabling higher quality outcomes.
The Guild will only fund a proportion of costs so that benefits are spread across the Guild and local commitment is demonstrated.
The project must have obtained all necessary permissions before the application is submitted.
